Boxes - for joeyrz - Harry/Ron - PG
Title : Boxes
For : [info]joeyrz
Pairing : Harry/Ron
Prompt : boxes
Words : 368
Rating : PG

Harry had never been taught how to handle all this emotional stuff.

He'd been brought up - brought up? he snorted, dragged up, more like – to know that he was worthless and everyone hated him.

And then came Hogwarts.

Friends.

He couldn't believe his luck.

He found himself categorising all these new people; putting them in boxes.

Malfoy and his satellites; well, he'd always had a box for people who hated him.

The teachers, Ron's parents; sitting solemnly in the adults box.

Casual mates, laughing with him in the dorm, in class; tumbling like puppies in the friends box.

Fred and George slapping him on the back after Quidditch; a warm, cosy almost-family box.

Pretty girls to kiss; a perfumed and silk lined hormone box.

Ron and Hermione.

He had no word big enough to describe their box; how much they meant to him.

They were like his oxygen.

They came with him when he left school, without a backward glance.

They were cold and thin and dirty and he loved them so much.

He'd thought they'd get together; he found himself hysterically wondering if he should half fill their box with sawdust, or something, so they could mate in there.

But they hadn't; it was too late; they were friends.

Convenient, huh?

Because it seemed that Ron had gnawed his way out of his box.

What a mess; sawdust everywhere.

And Ron looking at him with those big, blue eyes; scratching at the hormone box.

Trying to confuse him.

Because Ron wasn't a pretty girl, with soft hair and soft breasts and soft skin.

Ron was tall and bony and too thin.

And he had knobbly wrist bones.

And too many knees.

And eyes that could see right through him.

And strong arms that had wrapped round him and held him, when they heard about Remus.

And a furnace for a heart, that beat strongly and kept him warm when he panicked and clung to him.

And large hands that stroked his hair.

And Harry had a feeling that he simply couldn't live without him; that he needed a new box, marked soul mates in felt tip pen, where he and Ron could hide from the world.
