Repotting **** Neville had always been a sunny person in the morning.
He and Dean had always been out of bed first, at school, but Dean didn’t whistle through his teeth as he shaved.
They had usually made it back into the dorm to find Harry sitting on the edge of his bed and blinking stupidly, while Ron and Seamus still snored and farted.
He’d always been an early and cheerful breakfaster, tiptoeing around the surly bears who didn’t function until after a second cup of coffee, usually chatting companionably enough with Hermione, and passing toast and marmalade to wherever it was needed the most.
Even through his seventh year at school, he’d been determined to be friendly and cheerful in the mornings.
To those who deserved it.
And yet, here he was, standing in greenhouse four at five in the morning on a dark November morning, being surly and grouchy and peevish and cranky and glaring at the seedling he was repotting.
Poor little shoot; it hadn’t done anything to deserve its handler’s negative energy.
Neville made a huge effort to beam contentment at the drooping little buds.
Wasn’t its fault it had to be repotted before dawn; wasn’t its fault the new Herbology Professor had developed rather a fondness for his bed on these cold mornings.
Wasn’t its fault he’d left silky blond hair burrowing under the covers and rolling into the warmth left by his unusually cantankerous body.
**** You asked for Neville/you-pick - I’d like to think it’s Luna, but I have a horrid feeling it might be Draco…
