“Nev,” Harry moaned. “I promised Molly we’d be at the Burrow by ten.”

“Harry,” Neville said sternly. “Molly is a wonderful woman, and I’m sure her family Christmases are all things warm and inclusive and utterly chaotic, but I want this to be special.”

Harry looked at him fondly.

“It is special,” he said.

“The Weasleys don’t know what it’s like,” Neville insisted. “They always had big family Christmases.”

“Well, they never had much stuff,” Harry said.

“I don’t mean stuff,” Neville interrupted. “I mean they had a family, and I know what it must have meant to you, not.”

Harry half shrugged.

“That was a long time ago,” he said. “I had all the brilliant Christmases at school, I'm fine about things, honestly.”

“I want to do things properly,” Neville insisted.

“Oh, fine, make a fool of yourself, then,” Harry said. “See if I care.”

“Come here.”

Harry rolled his eyes and sat down.

“So,” Neville asked him. “Have you been a good boy this year?”
