“You are an old fool, Arthur Weasley,” Molly sighed, taking down her hair and reaching for her hairbrush. “You shouldn’t have encouraged her.”

“Ah, it’s always a glorious day when a child first does Magic,” her husband replied, sitting up in bed and using a small screwdriver to remove the back of the old radio propped on his knees.

“Well, it was hardly likely that Rosie wouldn’t be Magical, was it?” Molly asked, deftly plaiting her hair and throwing it over her shoulder.

“I won ten Galleons off George,” Arthur said happily, examining the wiring he’d exposed.

“How?”

“Rosie has her mum’s brains and her dad’s heart,” Arthur said. “George thought her first Magic would be something clever, I thought it’d be something protective.”

“Well, this was a bit of both, wasn’t it?” Molly demanded.

“James was being cruel to his brother; it doesn’t matter to anyone that Al is the only grandchild with black hair. So, Rosie was protecting her favourite cousin.”

“Yes,” Molly said. “But she actually turned James’s hair black – I couldn’t turn it back – he’s going to have to wait until it grows out.”

“That is pretty clever,” Arthur said proudly. “I think I’ll buy Rosie a book with my winnings.”
