He was planted near to thirty years ago, now. Planted fer when Professor Dumbledore arranged fer Remus Lupin to start at the school.

Now, that’s another creature that had ter be trained up. People think it’s just a Whomping Willow. That there are many of them, and they all Whomp an’ flail like tha’.

From a sapling, I knelt at it’s roots, feelin’ the tree tremble, feelin’ it tangle its twigs in me hair and sway into me as I sucked on each bud till the sap burst in me mouth.
