Malachy's blood.
Mal's blood's been on my hands, before; grazed knees and blooded noses and that time I tried to pierce his ear.
But the wet sound of fists hitting his face still echoes in my ears and I kneel at his side as he chokes on his own blood and I hardly dare touch him.
