Equus - Act One [Jan. 23rd, 2002|01:00 am]
Title: Equus
Author: [info]shocolate
Rating: R

Right.

Equus.

Having seen Equus, um, a few times, now, and having tempted a dozen or so of you to see it with me, and having about 500 of you pining and wibbling because you’ll never see it, I decided that the next best thing to do would be to act it out for you all.

Um, no, not a real life version, thank you very much.

My first thought was Barbie dolls, and my daughter and I did rummage though the toy box, but the scale was daunting, and wardrobe was limited and getting the bastards to stand up is impossible.

So.

I suddenly had an epiphany.

Lego.

We own a vast amount of Harry Potter Lego!

How could I resist casting Harry as Alan?

Obviously, I couldn’t, especially when I realised that we had the Escape From Privet Drive set - which meant we had an Uncle Vernon – which meant I had my Dysart!

So.

Here we go. The King rides out on Equus.

I mean, I give you Equus In Lego.

It is very, very image heavy and dial-up unfriendly.

It isn’t quite every single word of the text – I’m not completely insane – so you probably need to have read it, already.

Characters

MARTIN DYSART, a psychiatrist (Vernon Dursley)
ALAN STRANG (Harry Potter)
FRANK STRANG, his father (Ron Weasley)
DORA STRANG, his mother (Hermione Granger)
HESTHER SALOMON, a magistrate (no one in particular)
JILL MASON (Ginny Weasley)
HARRY DALTON, a stable owner (no one in particular)
A YOUNG HORSEMAN (no one in particular)
A NURSE (no one in particular)

The horses – I tried to make masks out of fuse wire, but gave up, so you don’t get six gorgeous dancers with tight fitting clothes and being all balletic. You just get Nugget and will have to imagine the others.

NUGGET (Buckbeak)

Before anyone asks, the yellow blobs are the faces of people in the stage seats.

Also, the stage doesn’t rotate at the end of act one, even though my daughter tried to tempt me with a Lego turntable.
