“So, why has Seamus started calling Dean ‘Jack’?” Ron asked.

“It’s short for ‘John’, isn’t it?” Harry replied.

“Ignoring the fact that it’s the same length as ‘John’…” Ron said.

“Well, that would make him ‘John Thomas’,” Harry explained.

“So… if I called you ‘Bob’, short for ‘Robert’, which isn’t your name, that’s funny?”

“No,” Harry said patiently. “‘John Thomas’ is Muggle slang for penis, and it’s Seamus’ pet name for Dean’s equipment… so that’s like you calling me ‘Dick’, short for ‘Richard’, which isn’t my name, but you lie on the pool table and I’d be your ‘Dick Potter’.”

	snorts had an Uncle John who was Uncle Jack oddly, has Uncle Jack who is Uncle Brian ... I know nothing about snooker/pool/billiards, so have no smutty comments to make in relation to same. (Reply to this)

I have actually never heard Jack in relation to John. That seems very strange, as they hardly sound anything alike, and are the same length.

In Oklahoma the only time you'll ever here someone called Jack is if it's short for Jackson... or if, you know, their name is just Jack.

That happens a lot, too. I have two uncles, one named Joe and one named Bill. Not Joseph and William, just Joe and Bill.

I find it very strange.

	How utterly bizarre! Jack has become a separate name, here, too, but... well, Oscar Wilde... Jack is a notorious domesticity for John! And I pity any woman who is married to a man called John. She would probably never be allowed to know the entrancing pleasure of a single moment's solitude. (Reply to this) (Parent)
