Harry had nursed all day and kept her trapped in her rocking chair, and she was ashen with exhaustion by the time James came home.

He had taken the sleeping baby from her arms and hauled her to her feet.

"Bed, Evans," he said firmly.

"'Snot worth it," she said, fighting to keep her eyes open as he steered her into the bedroom. "He'll wake up again."

"And I will take care of him," he insisted.

Lily snorted and poked his chest as he leant over her and tucked her in.

"With what?" she scoffed.

"I'll play with him," he said patiently. "He'll last a couple of hours without a feed."

"He doesn't play, James," she said, sinking into the bed. "He's three months old."

"Well, I'll conjure up some Halloween decorations. He'll watch stuff spin and sparkle, won't he?"

"Hmmm," she murmured. "His first Halloween."

"First of many."
